Pasta dinner fundraiser to benefit Honor Flight Rochester

The North Rose Wolcott Teacher’s Association is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Honor Flight Rochester on May 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the North Rose Wolcott High School.

The dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, bread, salad, a drink and dessert. Presale tickets are $7 for adults ($9 at the door) and kids under 10 are $5. Take out is available

Last year, the North Rose Wolcott Teacher’s Association held a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and was able to raise approximately $2,000 for Honor Flight Rochester.

Deputies: Sodus man threw infant son and choked girlfriend

A Village of Sodus man has been arrested after deputies say he choked his girlfriend and then threw his seven-month-old son at her during a domestic disturbance on Wednesday.

Marcus Wickham, 24, is charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Wickham remains in the Wayne County jail in lieu of bail. He will answer to charges at a later date in the Village of Sodus Court.

Scholar Athlete of the Week 4/30: Brandon Vanderbrook

Marion senior Brandon Vanderbrook carries a 90 average and learned at a young age the importance of getting good grades.

Brandon Vanderbrook, Marion Scholar Athlete, said, “My family is a big support. They support me in everything. I enjoy English. I like the essays.”

He will attend Kent State in the fall and purse a career as an athletic trainer.

Vanderbrook said, “I was trying to do what I like and I love sports and sports training keeps me around sports.”

Brandon is a three-sport athlete. He participates in soccer, indoor and outdoor track.

Deputies: Mother left two boys unattended while she slept

A 32-year-old Marion woman is facing charges after sheriff’s deputies say she left her children unattended while she slept for hours.

Terry Leonard is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say Leonard left her two boys unattended while she slept for hours. When deputies arrived, they say she was in possession of cocaine. She was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies say the two boys are okay.

Section V high school officiating group seeking new members for 2013 season

Are you a retired football player or coach?  Do you love the game of football? Maybe you should consider becoming a football official.

Section V high school officiating group is looking for new members for the 2013 season. The organization, the Rochester Chapter of Certified Football Officials, trains new referees to meet state certification, conducts fingerprinting and assigns new members to youth and sub-varsity high school games, on way to working varsity high schools games in Monroe, Ontario, Genesee, Livingston counties and the southern tier.

Officials are paid for the games they work and receive a mileage reimbursement.

The Rochester Chapter of Certified Football Officials has produced outstanding officials, many who have advanced to and currently work in Division I College, the United Football League and the NFL. These men have worked state championships, college bowl games and NFL playoffs, including, NFC Championships and a Super Bowl.

Two new programs at Long Acre Farms

Long Acre Farms is entering its 20th season and there are some new  programs this year.

Little Explorers Club is designed for children ages 18 month to 5 years. It will meet every Thursday from May 30 to August 22. And the theme is the Rainforest.

Each of the 12 sessions will be centered around a different theme and will encourage children to compare and contrast NYS to the rainforest. They will learn through hand-on activities, stories, songs and arts and crafts, all designed by a New York certified teacher. The sessions are 45 minutes in length.

Sessions are $5 per child.  Registration has begun and there are only a  limited number of spot available. Each child will receive a  kiddie cone from our Ice Cream Shop at the end of each session.

Lyons man charged with DWI after car crash in Wayne County

A Lyons man is facing drunk driving charges following a one-car crash in the Town of Arcadia.

Sheriff’s deputies say 63-year-old Mark Hemingway was drunk when he crashed his vehicle on Arcadia Zurich Norris Road Saturday afternoon. Hemingway was the only person in the car at the time of the crash.

He is charged with DWI, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher, failure to use designated lane and no hands on steering mechanism.

Hemingway was issued tickets and released. He is due in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
