Background

Penfield student Shane Gambrill has always had a knack for art, but now he’s taking his talent to the next level by having it shown as part of an ongoing student art show in Webster. His unique spray paintings are now on display at the artist of Dr. Stan Drabik, where work from local students who are patients at the office will be rotated each month.

How it’s done

Although he uses spray paint, his works of art are nothing like graffiti, Shane explained. Rather than spray onto a wall or hard surface, he paints on thick paper and layers the different colors to give a swirl effect along with clean lines.

He was first inspired to try this method during a trip to Mexico, where he saw a man spray paint in public.

“He was kneeling down and doing it on posterboard. I thought it was the coolest thing, so I stayed and watched him for hours.”

Shane sometimes uses bowls or cups as stencils.

Everybody cut...FOOTLOOSE!

Everybody cut...FOOTLOOSE!

The Gananda High School Drama Club will ignite the stage with the energy-packed smash hit musical FOOTLOOSE from March 30 through April 1.

Made popular by the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon and the recent 2011 remake, Footloose introduces us to Ren McCormack.  When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid.

The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Performs this Spring

The Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Performs this Spring

I'm looking forward to the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (RPYO) spring concert season for several reasons:  the music is exemplary and...my son plays the tuba in it.  If you're free on Sunday, March 4th or Sunday, May 13th, check out these concerts.  You'll be delighted by the quality of the performances.

The RPYO is a symphony orchestra comprised of 100 dedicated young musicians in grades eight through 12 from around the greater Rochester area.  These two spring concerts conclude the orchestra's 2011/2012 41st season.  The March one includes its annual side-by-side concert with members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. All performances are led by Dr. David Harman, music director and conductor of the RPYO.

“Our students have enormous talent and passion for music and incredible drive,” said Dr.
