Christopher’s Challenge Hike for Life

 

Christopher’s Challenge will be hosting its 12th annual Hike for Life on Sunday, April 28th at Eastview Mall. The hike was started in memory of two brave men who lost their battles with cancer: Gene Martello, from Seneca Falls, and Tony Canali, from Canandaigua. Both men were dedicated supporters of Christopher’s Challenge and believed in the mission of getting more people typed to become potential bone marrow donors.

Local Zumba instructors get ready for 2nd annual Zumba for Autism event in Palmyra

April is Autism Awareness Month and two local Zumba instructors are gathering with some friends to help area families through AutismUp(formerly UNYFEAT).

They are holding their 2nd annual Zumba for Autism on Sunday April 28 at the Palmyra Community Center. The fun begins at 2:00p.m. with registration at 1:30p.m.

Besides Zumba, there will be a representative from AutismUp there as well as a bake sale, raffles and project table for kids.

The cost of the event is $10 for adults and children 13-years-old and up and $5 for children 5-12. Children 4 and under are free.

Scouts donate boxes of food to Newark Food Closet

Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troops No. 122 and 138 and Venture Crews No. 138, 3483, and 3333 held their Scouting For Food and Clothing event on Saturday, March 23.  

Residents of the Village of Newark generously donated 35 boxes of food for the Newark Food Closet.  The Troops, along with parents, collected, delivered, and sorted the canned and boxed varieties of food.  Clothing was also collected and donated.

Since Jan. 1, 250 adults and 125 children have received 3 to 4 days worth of food. The Newark Food Closet is open Monday through Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the basement of the Municipal Building, 100 E. Miller St., Newark. Persons residing in the village of Newark and town of Arcadia who are in need of food are eligible. A photo ID and proof of current residency must be presented at the Red Cross office at 331-3783 or 400 S. Main St. on the day food is requested to receive a Referral Form.

Summerville Presbyterian Church Hurricane Relief Task Force to hold Euchre Fun Night Fundraiser

The Summerville Presbyterian Church Hurricane Relief Task Force is holding a Euchre Fun Night Fundraiser on Saturday March 9 at the Strike It Up Artistic Center on Route 104 in Ontario, Wayne County.

A dinner buffet will begin at 6:00 p.m. and the games will begin at 7:00p.m. The cost for dinner and games is $15.

Local law enforcement agencies raise over $12,000 for police officers impacted by Hurricane Sandy

 

Back in 2001 the National Association of Police Organizations(“NAPO”) established the NAPO relief fund to provide financial relief to officers and their families impacted by a tragedy. On Monday, January 28th, NAPO Executive Director, Bill Johnson, accepted a donation for the NAPO relief fund at the Rochester Police Locust Club. 

Palmyra teen to benefit from cancer martial arts tournament

In conjunction with Wayne County Children’s Cancer Fund, Kuk Sool Won, a Korean Martial Art Studio, with locations in Williamson, Ontario, Wolcott, and Webster, will be holding its Annual Cancer Benefit Tournament.  

This year the recipient of the proceeds is Lauren Miller. The Benefit will take place on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Casey Park Indoor Soccer Field, located at 6551 Knickerbocker Road in Ontario. In addition to the tournament the event will host Martial Art demonstrations, a silent auction, bake sale, and raffles.

Rochester based charity and local organizations partner for holiday gift project

Alyssa’s Angels, a Henrietta based charity, started a holiday gift project in 2011 to directly help local children and families in need during the holiday season. Five worthy non-profit organizations were selected and Alyssa’s Angels donated $500 to each.

This year, in an effort for the program to have a greater impact and help even more Rochester area children and families; Alyssa’s Angels reached out for partner organizations from the community to match its $500 donation. Through this effort, each of the five selected non-profit organizations received $1,000.
