Newark counterfeiters nabbed; more arrests pending
A mother and son were charged May 20 with first-degree forgery, first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, fourth-degree conspiracy, second-degree scheme to defraud and petit larceny, Newark police said.
Rodney L. Goodrich Jr., 27, and his mother, 48-year-old Tammy M. Kennedy, both of Newark, were following an investigation into the distribution of counterfeit $20 bills that have been handed out at local businesses throughout southern parts of Wayne County and into Ontario County, police said. Officer Aaron Dean was able to track down Goodrich and Kennedy and it was discovered the duo were allegedly printing their own money. Goodrich, police allege, created nearly $500 in counterfeit bills using a photo copier. He then allegedly used them with his mother at fast food restaurants, covenience stores and garage sales to purchase various items.
