Newark counterfeiters nabbed; more arrests pending

A mother and son were charged May 20 with first-degree forgery, first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, fourth-degree conspiracy, second-degree scheme to defraud and petit larceny, Newark police said.

Rodney L. Goodrich Jr., 27, and his mother, 48-year-old Tammy M. Kennedy, both of Newark, were following an investigation into the distribution of counterfeit $20 bills that have been handed out at local businesses throughout southern parts of Wayne County and into Ontario County, police said. Officer Aaron Dean was able to track down Goodrich and Kennedy and it was discovered the duo were allegedly printing their own money. Goodrich, police allege, created nearly $500 in counterfeit bills using a photo copier. He then allegedly used them with his mother at fast food restaurants, covenience stores and garage sales to purchase various items.

Palmyra man charged with DWI in Canandaigua

A 23-year-old Palmyra man has been charged with drunk driving.

Canandaigua Police say they stopped Brandon Haak on Bristol Street after he exited a parking lot the wrong way. He was subsequently charged with DWI, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08% or higher, open container and disobeying a traffic control device.

Haak is due in Canandaigua City Court at a later date.

Wayne County man charged with DWI

A 42-year-old Wayne County man has been arrested for drunk driving.

Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped Charles Gardner of Ontario because he was unable to stay in his lane on Route 104.

He was subsequently charged with aggravated DWI and having a BAC of more than .18%. Gardner is due in court at a later date.
 

Macedon woman charged with unlawful possession of marijuana

A 65-year-old Wayne County woman is facing charges following a traffic stop in Victor.

Sheriff’s deputies say they stopped Linda Lehr of Macedon on Route 96 in Victor for a routine traffic stop. She was subsequently charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and ticketed for having an uninspected motor vehicle.

She was issued appearance tickets and is due in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
 

Police: Man sells drugs near daycare and school

A Walworth man has been arrested and charged with selling drugs in the town hall parking lot in Macedon and also with near a daycare and school.

Dylan K. Dippel, 22, of Walworth, was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in or near school grounds, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal sale of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police say Dippel was selling prescription pills and marijuana in the Macedon Town Hall parking lot, along with selling marijuana and prescription pain medications near a daycare facility and Pal-Mac Intermediate School.

Dippel was arraigned in Macedon Village Court and was released to his parents. Dippel is due back in court on May 22 at 7 :00p.m.
 

Testimony begins in trial for two people accused in death of Fairport teacher

She was a mother of two and a popular teacher in the Fairport Central School District. The trial for the two people charged in her death got underway Thursday.

Investigators call it a deadly game of cat and mouse. They say Mark Scerbo and Meagan Merkel were chasing each other down the road after a night of drinking last July. That's when officials say both their vehicles hit and killed Heather Boyum, who was riding her bike.

This is an unusual trial because prosecutors are trying Merkel and Scerbo simultaneously in the same courtroom with one judge and two different juries. Officials say it's to save you, the taxpayer, some money.

Opening statements in the case against Mark Scerbo wrapped up Thursday afternoon. Opening statements for Meagan Merkel were held Thursday morning.

Lyons woman charged with obstructing governmental administration

A 39-year-old Lyons woman has been charged with obstructing governmental administration.

Sheriff’s deputies in Wayne County say they were assisting the Lyons Police Department in its investigation of a domestic incident involving Tessa Vankoevering. According to investigators, Vankoevering refused to follow orders given by a deputy.

Vankoevering was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in court at a later date.
