Maffei takes listening tour to Wayne County

Rep. Dan Maffei (D-NY) hosted a small business round table discussion Saturday at Brantling Ski and Snowboard Center in Sodus as part of his district-wide listening tour focused on job creation.

Citing creating more jobs, fixing the economy, and growing the middle class as his top priorities; Maffei held a round table discussion Saturday with Wayne County small business owners and small business development leaders. Maffei listened to their ideas and discussed ways to expand small businesses and work together to create new jobs and grow the region’s economy.

On the front steps of the Palmyra Town Hall Wayne County Clerk Mike Jankowski announced that he will be seeing re-election as county clerk.  

“It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve the people of Wayne County as their Clerk,” Jankowski told friends and supporters assembled. “Together we have accomplished a great deal but more needs to be done. I am therefore a candidate for re-election as your Wayne County Clerk.  In the months ahead I look forward to discussing the accomplishments of my office and where we go next with the people of this County.”

Wayne County GOP leader Daniel Olson expected to resign after DWI

Wayne County’s Republican Party chairman is expected to resign following his second driving while intoxicated arrest in three years last weekend.

Daniel A. Olson, 61, of 2728 Layton Street Road, Lyons, was charged Friday, Feb. 8 with felony driving while intoxicated, refusal of a breath test, failing to stop at a stop sign and operating without headlights, Lyons police said.

Police said Olson allegedly drove through a snow bank as he left a liquor store in Lyons without turning his headlights on. Police said they stopped Olson along Montezuma Street, where field sobriety tests revealed he was intoxicated, although he refused to take a breath test.

Reilich selected as Vice Chair of the Finger Lakes Region

On Monday, the Monroe County Republican Committee announced Chairman Bill Reilich has been selected as Vice Chair of the Finger Lakes Region.

Reilich said, “I am very honored to be selected to represent the Finger Lakes region. I look forward to this opportunity to promote both regionally and statewide the principles of the Republican Party which set the criteria for our primary goal of identifying qualified candidates. This new position will allow me to continue to meet with candidates at each level of government to ensure their main priority is advocating for our constituents. As Vice Chair, I welcome the chance to share ideas and listen to the concerns of the regional Republican Chairs of the adjacent Counties comprised in the Finger Lakes region.”

The region includes Allegany, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates Counties.

Palmyra declares winner in mayor's race after voting machines malfunctioned

Palmyra has just declared a winner in it's mayor's race. Republican Christopher Piccola has defeated Democrat Jim Elliot.

Wayne County Board of Elections' officials had to manually count the paper ballots after several voting machines malfunctioned. Officials say they weren't trusting the electronic results.
 

Lyons residents will vote whether to dissolve the village

Residents in Lyons, Wayne County will decide Tuesday whether to dissolve the village. Supporters claim the change would cut their taxes.

About 3600 people live in the village. Around 2,000 live outside the village. Only village residents will be voting on the dissolution proposal.

 

 

Primary day in New York State

A lot of people are talking about the presidential election in November, but many in our area will be heading to the polls on Thursday for the New York State Primary. But don't forget you can only head to the polls if there is a primary for your party and district.

News10NBC will be following a number of key races throughout Thursday. In the 133rd District we will be tracking the contest between republicans Bill Nojay and Richard Burke. In the 137th District, it's a hotly contested democratic race between incumbent David Gantt and challengers Jose Cruz and John Lightfoot.

In Livingston County, News10NBC will also be following the district attorney race between republicans Steve Sessler and Eric Schiener.

Polls in Monroe County are open on Thursday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
