T.C. Armstrong Middle School presents Disney’s "The Little Mermaid Jr.”

T.C. Armstrong Middle School will transform the Wayne Performing Arts Center into the underwater magical kingdom of “The Little Mermaid Jr.” on February 10, 11 and 12th.

Students of the Thomas C. Armstrong Middle School have been issued a pilot license from Music Theatre International to regionally premiere this new musical. They have been preparing for the show since October and are filled with energy and excitement to share their talents with the public.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students and seniors (add $2 at the door) and children 5 and below are $5. All tickets are general admission.

NR-W wrestlers surprise winners of Wayne-Finger Lakes Tournament

The North Rose-Wolcott wrestling team won the last four Wayne County League championships, but on Saturday night for the first time in 25 years, Wayne County and the Finger Lakes League combined for one league championship.

The Cougars won the title with 260.5 points. Midlakes placed second with 244 points while Palmyra-Macedon was third with 232.5, followed by Wayne (162.5), East Rochester (161), Sodus (148), South Seneca (138), Newark (129), Geneva DeSales (91), Penn Yan (89), Williamson (84), Waterloo (62), Mynderse (56), Marcus Whitman (55), Dundee (46), Lyons (42), Red Creek (33), Marion (26), Red jacket (22), and Geneva (0).

The Cougars, who were ranked No. 20 Small Schools, crowned one champion out of three finalists.

Midlakes, which entered the tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in Small Schools, had four wrestlers earn titles out of six finalists.

Enrollment for East Palmyra Christian School underway

Preschool, kindergarten and new student enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year is currently being held at East Palmyra Christian School.  
 
Tour and information nights are scheduled for February 16, February 28, and March 15, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Teachers and board members will be on hand for questions and to give tours of the school.

RBTL awards $500 to Gananda High School

A local high school's band program has won $500 from the Rochester Broadway Theatre League, Albert Nocciolino and radio station, 98PXY.

In honor of BLAST, the Tony and Emmy Award-winning Musical Spectacular playing at the Auditorium Theatre tonight, RBTL, Albert Nocciolino and the 98PXY sponsored a contest called, "Toot Your School's Horn."

Students were asked to nominated their school. Once the school was nominated, RBTL posted a picture with the school's name on Facebook. The school/photo with the most "likes" at the end of the contest period were named the winner. 

A total of 30 schools were nominated and there were over 3,000 votes. Gananda High School in Wayne County won with 629 votes. Gananda's Band Program will be receiving $500 cash prize.   

BLAST is at the Auditorium Theatre tonight for one show only.

Travel under the sea with T.C. Armstrong Middle School as they transform the Wayne Central Performing Arts Center into the underwater magical kingdom of "The Little Mermaid Jr.".

The show will be performed February 10, 11 and 12.

The show is produced by Mike Allen, with former Greece Athena Middle School music director Carl Wager as artistic director. Patty Flowerday is the choreographer and production assistants are Christine LoDestro and Diane Abrams.

Gananda Names November Students of the Month

Gananda Names November Students of the Month

Six middle school students have been selected as Students of the Month at Gananda Middle School.

Students are selected based on their demonstration of the following characteristics: exceptional effort, leadership, consistent homework completion, positive behavior, positive attitude, good attendance and effort to meet commencement outcomes.

Scholar Athlete of the Week 12/6: Wayne's Kristen Meiler

Wayne Central's Kristen Meiler carries a 95 average and is ranked 18th in her class. She enjoys a heavy class load. “As I started more challenging courses and more AP courses, it's gotten harder. It requires more studying and hours at home doing work.”

But Kristen doesn't mind because of her ultimate goal -- to become a marine biologist or pursue a career in zoology. “It started when I was a little girl I just love them -- the Humane society of Wayne County I did my senior project is on animal abuse so I plan to do another internship. It's always been an interest. I've always loved them.”

Her other passion cheerleading. “I used to watch the gymnastics cheerleading competitions and it combines dance it's a good mix of different types of athleticism.”

Kristen is captain for both fall and winter and lead her team to a league championship this fall. “We're going to Nationals this year in Washington, D.C.
